Maximum Power Research

Everyone knows most power, a measure of the rate of work, is vitally important to the performance of many different sports. The two papers available for your download below, do a great job of summing up several different aspects of training for maximal power and review a great deal of the current research that’s been done on the subject. Feel free to read, enjoy, and discuss

  1. Read these when they came out. Very good reads. However, Power is one subject that we have royally screwed up in this profession. Power is definitely overrated and not what people think.

I’m in the process of finishing an ebook on the subject which basically supports the notion we do NOT need to train for “power” nor is power as important as it’s claimed. I actually reference Newton quite a bit to support my claims.

I’ll send Joel over a copy when it’s complete.

    All the best,
    Sam

    1. Sam, I completely agree with you. Training for maximum power or using loads where power output is the highest just for the sake of doing it generally makes very little sense. Loading should be determined by the forces in the sport and the needs of the athlete, not by where some particular level of power output may be. Looking forward to reading your ebook.

  2. Great stuff!!

I’m just starting to really find my feet in the whole research side of things, just wondering where you guys go online to find these articles?

    Many thanks again!
